A Healthier Home Leads to a Healthier Family – Part 1

Some things such as city pollution and traffic stress are out of our control. However, we are in control of what we place in our mouths and what goes into our homes.  To feed our bodies we aim to be Primed and take great care to eat nutritiously, but what about what goes on your body and in via other ways besides food (toothpaste and perfumes for example)?   Can these have a harmful affect on your body?

Healthy Home, Healthy Family2

Your skin is your largest organ and easily absorbs chemicals and other harmful products that come into contact with it.  When your skin absorbs these harmful products it then is absorbed into your blood stream.  Your mouth is also a direct route to your blood stream.

With this in mind, here are some easy to implement tips to lessen your (and that of your family) contact with harmful products that can have negative health consequences on your hormones, body and mind.  Bear in mind that children and youths are at a greater risk than adults.

Primed Mixed Berry, Banana and Coconut Cake

Being Primed for your Life does not mean you miss out on the good things in life.  It actually means by eating better and more nutritious food you live longer and better.

Most of us have a sweet tooth to one degree or another but one bite of a sweet sugar laden cake is enough to raise your blood sugar levels and leave you with a bad taste in your mouth and pangs of regret when the sweet treat just didn’t taste as good as it looked.

Well, what about a Primed sweet treat where you can have a nice slice and not only enjoy the flavors but it wont take your sugar levels on a roller coaster ride?

Is Using a Microwave Good for the health of you and your family?

I am not a scientist and really do not know if a microwave is good or bad. However, I know it does not make my food taste better and has made it worse on a number of previous occasions.  I personally believe it actually lessens the nutrients in the food.

Besides, the words to “microwave food” conjures similar words like to to “zap” or “nuke” my food! I don’t want nuked food.

Being Primed for your Life is simply trying to maximize the nutritional quality of your food and drinks so as to feed your mind and body optimally so you can enjoy more time for life. We all want to live well and live long so the better your nutrition the better you will live daily and in the long-term. Nobody is 100% sure whether heating your food in a microwave affects the nutritional value of that food with many varying opinions on this HEATED subject!

However, given the uncertainty on whether a microwave is good or bad (I might be wrong) I think it might be best to err on the side of safety. Yes, a microwave is fast and convenient, but being Primed means taking more time to prepare and enjoy your food.

Why would you even contemplate using a microwave (given the uncertainty of how it might affect the life sustaining nutrients in your food when you have better and safer alternatives.

Filipino Fried Rice – The Primed Version for Longer Life

I LOVE a great Fried Rice. With the right Primed ingredients it can be a meal in itself and something that powers your body and mind all day.

However, with the wrong ingredients and cooked using vegetable oil it will spike your blood sugar levels (and therefore insulin) and can have severe adverse health consequences.

Dr. Cate Shanahan (chief nutritional doctor of the L.A.Lakers and respected author of Deep Nutrition) surveyed hundreds of patients in New Zealand that were admitted to the hospital for a heart attack, and discovered that every single patient that just had a heart attack had consumed foods made with vegetable oils with their last meal before the heart attack…Scary huh! Information from this site.

Filipino Fried Rice1

How about a healthy and nutritious Primed Filipino Fried Rice? One that you can add your own twist to by including local vegetables that suit your budget. Vegetables like Malunggay, Okra and Kangkong can all be used in this dish besides the ones mentioned. Imagine the nutritional value of this version with your Pork or Chicken instead of just plain white rice? Here, you are giving your mind and body high performance fuel.

The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. ~ Mark Twain

We all feel depressed or down some times. Life can be tough and things do not always go the way we hoped they would. As our triathlon champ Jong Sajulga says “C’est la vie” which means “That’s life”.

Primed Scotch Egg with Pickled Cucumber and Ginger on Squash “Rice”

I am always trying to come up with some new cool dishes for my children to enjoy for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Well, here is an item that is nutritious, inexpensive, tasty and good for any meal time. It is the traditional Scotch Egg where a layer of meat is wrapped around a boiled egg then pan fried.  Sounds good right?  It is a traditional British recipe that is making a comeback as people look more and more for real food items like their Grandparents used to eat.

How a Simple Lifestyle Change Helped Reduce my PCOS (PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome) Condition: A True Story

By: Mae Ilagan from WhenInManila

Early this month, I thought I was sick because of severe bleeding. I’ve been diagnosed with Polycystic ovaries (PCOS) for 10 yrs and despite taking hormone pills prescribed by my doctor to fix my imbalances, my condition never really improved. I gave up on my medications 4 years ago, I didn’t want to take any medicine for they were also expensive. And so for 4 yrs, I’d only have my period 3 times yearly….

My 1st period came March 2014 then the 2nd came around August… 2 weeks after I significantly reduced my white sugar and rice consumption (also no grains and no noodles) as advised by Primed for Your Life Wellness Coach, Chad Davis.

Over-fed and under-nourished7

Then Sept 5 came, I noticed I started having blood discharges. I thought it would last for only a few days, but it never stopped til early Oct. By the 1st weekend of October, the blood flow became severe, that I had to go to the hospital as I thought my bleedings were caused by abnormal growths in my uterus since I never visited my doctor for years.

My OB performed an ultrasound and confirmed that I was actually having a normal period. She was so surprised because I never took any meds and because I had my period again only after a month. She confirmed that it was due to my lifestyle/diet change. She (my doctor) even gave me a go signal to continue on with whatever I was doing and even asked me what I did, so she can also advise her other patients who have PCOS to do what I did! The ultrasound results were very good! I have no cysts nor polyps or any abnormalities. Turns out I’m healthier than ever!

Since I lack exercise, my weight loss is very gradual. I almost gave up and wanted to eat rice again, but little did I know that my lifestyle change was doing major changes in my system! I’m so happy now and I feel much healthier as I never thought my imbalances would improve!

I really thank you, Ms. Cathy and the whole Nurture team because you and Chad Davis were the reasons behind my health success!

Thank you for teaching me how to eat well and for adding years to my life!
